What is Fensa?

FENSA stands for the Fenestration Self-Assessment Scheme. It has been set up by the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and other industry bodies with Government encouragement in response to the current Building Regulations for England and Wales.

When having windows and doors replaced homeowners must comply with current thermal peformance standards and ensure that they get a certificate of compliance from FENSA or from Local Authority Building Control. FENSA also enables companies that install replacement windows and doors to self certify compliance under these Building Regulations.

How does it affect me?

Fensa registration ensures that the windows and doors which will be installed into your property comply to the current insulation and safety standards, this also includes the structural design, manufacture and installation of a window.

By using a Fensa registered company, it removes the liability from you, as a home owner, to ensure your new replacement windows and doors actually comply to the regulations and puts the liability on the installing company.

If there are any situations which arise through “non-compliance” of a Fensa registered company, Fensa will investigate the situation and ensure amends are made, even down to prosecution if necessary.
